The most important aspect of the counseling process is a safe, secure, and confidential relationship between the therapist and the client.

As we navigate through the process of healing and self-realization, I will utilize techniques from many different theoretical orientations, but I am most confident with the results I have seen with Emotionally Focused Therapy, in combination with Cognitive Behavioral Techniques. These theories compliment each other. Emotional patterns and ways of responding in relationships are developed early in life and often dictate what happens in our relationships as adults. Therefore it is important to explore early experiences and the emotions associated with them. (Emotionally Focused Therapy)  Identifying those patterns and their origins is the beginning of the healing process and frees us to begin trying out new ways of thinking and relating to people and to life. It allows us to make well-thought, intentional, behavior changes (cognitive behavioral techniques) to create more satisfying relationships and improve functioning in daily life, employment and relationships.

I am very excited about the amount of new research and understanding of the emotional centers of the brain, and the mind-body connection.  The findings of the recent research have given us solid evidence of the brain’s ability to grow, change, and heal from trauma. I am currently engaged in becoming qualified to treat PTSD and generalized trauma with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing),  a method for resolving treatment resistant trauma that is endorsed by numerous professional and governmental organizations, (for more information: http://truecenterpoint.com/whatis.html) I work from this knowledge base and offer new hope for those who desire to know deeper love, experience joy in their lives, and to function better in daily life, employment, and relationships.

I was born and raised in Oregon and have been a resident of West Linn since 2005.  For 16 years, in the early part of my career, I managed a psychiatry practice and also provided counseling for a professional Christian Counseling agency on a part-time basis and I completed a one-year internship working with a Psychologist and a Psychiatrist providing evaluation and counseling services to inmates at The Clallam Bay Corrections Center, a maximum security prison. Later I worked for 5 years in the assisted living and retirement industry where I became familiar with issues of retirement and aging.  In 2006, I returned to school and earned a master’s degree from George Fox University, in Marriage and Family Therapy.

In addition to my private practice in West Linn, I also work at Providence Portland’s Chemical Dependency Stabilization Unit where individual are who are taking steps to create new lives free from drug and alcohol addictions.

    Question/Message

    What is Chrysalis?

A transitional stage through which a caterpillar becomes a butterfly. During the chrysalis phases of our life, little may appear to be happening because much of the change is occurring internally, beneath the surface.

These transitions involve shifts in the way we see the world. A chrysalis stage is a time when the former way of being is no longer possible and a new “Self” has not yet emerged. This is a time of exploration, questioning, and discovery.
